Goals of sustainable development
The Family Dairy Farms project supports the call of the UN regarding the increase in the welfare of the country's population without a negative impact on the environment.

The aim and purpose of the project
The Family Dairy Farms project aims to make a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian society and environmental protection. To this end, we implement in practice most of the basic principles of sustainable development, which were adopted by the UN in 2015 and supported by the Decree of the President of Ukraine “On the Sustainable Development Goals of Ukraine for the period up to 2030” No. 722/2019 dated September 30, 2019.
The goal of our project is to create an all-Ukrainian network of family dairy farms that will employ about 20,000 Ukrainians and produce more than 10% of Ukraine's milk. This will have a positive impact on the social development of the countryside and reduce unemployment in rural areas. It is thanks to the opening of new farms that people in the regions will be able to work at home instead of trying their luck in foreign countries.
Family Dairy Farms is a prime example of a socially-oriented business that creates a positive multiplier effect for the development of agriculture and the dairy industry in Ukraine.

Implementation of sustainable development goals in the Family Dairy Farms project
Overcoming poverty
Participation in the Family Dairy Farms project allows villagers to start their own effective business to ensure a high standard of living for themselves and their families. The increase in milk production will have a positive impact on the export potential of the dairy industry, especially on the export of milk powder to low-income countries.
Peace, justice and strong institutions
Animal care, which gave rise to farming, is one of the oldest and most peaceful professions in the world. And dairy farming is the basis for the Family Dairy Farms project. In addition, the project is aimed at supporting the family institution. Ukrainian families are not destroyed by the permanent stay of men/women working abroad, but rather by working together on the farm to achieve a common goal strengthens families.
Agriculture development, overcoming hunger
Milk is one of the staple foods of the population. Our project helps to increase the production of milk and dairy products and has a positive impact on the development of Ukrainian agriculture. The main tool for achieving the project's goals is family dairy farms, where it is planned to keep up to 150,000 cows by the end of 2026, which will produce about 975 thousand tons of milk per year.
Strong health
In Ukraine, the level of milk consumption by the population is about 206 kg per person, while the WHO norm is 380 kg. And insufficient milk consumption means an increase in chronic diseases that arise from calcium, vitamin D, and protein deficiencies. The project's activities are aimed at increasing milk production, which will make it possible to raise the level of milk consumption among the population and thus reduce the number of diseases of the musculoskeletal and cardiovascular systems. In the future, family dairy farms will produce at least 10% of all milk in the country.
Gender equality
The company has created equal conditions for achieving career growth for both men and women. Personnel search and HR administration are carried out in accordance with Ukrainian legislation and internal rules, where there are no gender restrictions. The rules for participation in the project are the same for men and women. An essential condition for participation in the project is the presence of a complete family that meets the following criteria: close-knit and friendly, mutual respect, gender equality, family traditions, honesty and decency, and love of animals.
Quality education
Farmers who have expressed a desire to participate in the project and have been selected undergo mandatory training from the company's experts and are provided with the “Practical Guide for Family Dairy Farmers” manuals. In addition, the project has opened a Dairy Farmer's School, which provides online and offline training for all Ukrainian farmers. The company's employees and farmers have the opportunity to constantly improve their skills through corporate training programs and courses.
Decent work and economic growth
According to the government, 3.2 million Ukrainians work abroad. Participation in the project enables villagers to start and run an effective business. A family dairy farm opens up ways to develop their own activities and expand their income streams. In addition to directly selling milk, farmers can create a craft cheese factory or produce other dairy products (butter, sour cream, yogurt, etc.), thereby increasing their own profits.
Clean water and proper sanitation
The project's priority is the rational use of water resources, and to this end, we actively use modern technologies that can reduce water use on farms and provide cows with sufficient drinking water. After all, water consumption per cow per day is about 100 liters and directly affects the quality of milk. In addition, each family dairy farm is equipped with a septic tank, while simple peasant farms do not meet such sanitary requirements.
Reducing income inequality
Participation in the project enables villagers to start an effective business and earn sufficient income, which has a positive impact on reducing income inequality between rural and urban populations.
Responsible consumption and production
The project participants are given the opportunity to use modern machinery and technologies on their farms, which help reduce production costs and improve milk quality, increasing the farmer's income.
Partnerships for sustainable development
The project partners are the governments of Canada, Sweden, and Ukraine, the UN program, the Ukrainian Cooperative Federation, and regional state administrations, which help achieve the project's goals: to open 5,000 family dairy farms that will create new jobs and produce 10% of Ukraine's milk.
Sustainable development of cities and communities
The project helps create favorable conditions for doing business and living in rural areas, which will reduce the outflow of people from villages to cities and abroad. For ATCs, the project is an effective platform for implementing their village development plans and using grant programs.
Industry, innovation and infrastructure
The project concept envisages the formation of regional dairy clusters, within which high-quality infrastructure is created around family dairy farms to provide farmers with everything they need for milk production and processing: a dairy hub, a veterinary center, a feed center, a training center, an advisory service, a milk quality laboratory, a heifer farm, and craft cheese dairies. Thanks to the latest approach to organizing dairy business, the payback period for a family dairy farm is 3-4 years. The creation of clusters within one or two adjacent ATCs contributes to the development of the local economy and community revitalization. In terms of innovation, the first Ukrainian mobile application for the integrated management of a family dairy farm is being developed.
By putting into practice most of the sustainable development goals set out in the UN Global Compact, we will continue to make significant efforts to improve the living standards of Ukrainians, stop the disappearance of villages in Ukraine and preserve traditional family values.
